minestrone soup.

friendly chatter fills the kitchen. rain pounds outside the window. lightning flashes throughout the dark clouded skies. the weather is dreary, but inside is warmth, and laughter. the garlic is peeled. the beans are rinsed twice. a broth begins to form. cooking vegetables sizzle, creating a comforting sound. a plate of blueberries is laid out. a professional feeling is created as carrots are successfully julienned, and onions are successfully minced. parsley creates a fresh scent filling the air as it is chopped and juice bursts from the insides. the soup begins to simmer as love is tossed into the big soup pot, now alive with scents and fresh vegetables. dishes are washed, dried, and put away. a loaf of bread is left toasting. the kitchen is left silent for several hours.

the tick of the clock echoes through, striking six times.

chatter and laughter once again fills the echoing room. the soup is ladled out into bowls, each the twin of the previous and next. spoons are laid on the wooden table. woven mats are placed beneath each bowl, but not a drop of the good soup is spilled. sighs of delight replace the laughter, as each bite passes through each persons lips.

the clock strikes eight.

mingling through the kitchen is left the scents of faint soapy bubbles and spices.
the rain is still pounding outside the window. lighting still flashes throughout the dark clouded skies. the weather is still dreary. but there are blueberries and toast for breakfast, and soup for lunch
tomorrow.
