My dear friend Cassie has kindly contributed to my Shakespeare Week by submitting the following thoughts on Julius Ceasar:

"Cowards die many times before their deaths;

the valiant never taste death but once.

Of all the wonders that I yet have heard,

It seems to me the most strange that men should fear;

Seeing that death, a neccessary end,

Will come when it will come."

Julius Ceasar shows courage in the face of death, but he does not have a good reason to do so. As believers in Christ, we have hope that we will someday spent eternity with Him. Fear of death can keep us in chains. Jesus came in flesh to free us from our bonds. Hebrew 2:14-15 says, "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part of the same; that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them through who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage." He has conquered death and broken our chains! We have nothing to fear. Fear is not of G-d, because G-d is love, and as it says in 1 John 4:18a, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear."
