Wordless Scene. || Mexico, p. 2
Setting: An Orphanage in Mexico.
At Rise: Up to this point, a once abused little girl hasn’t let anyone come near her. She sits at a table by herself as mission workers/caretakers work with children on crafts in the background.
Woman stands by herself, obviously observing little girl.
Little girl glances up, then immediately drops her gaze and holds her blanket tightly.
Woman takes two or three steps toward little girl.
Little girl shrinks to farthest side of her bench.
Woman slips onto the long bench.
Little girl watches her warily as woman moves slightly closer.
Woman picks up a bowl of beads from the craft supplies, and, slowly and carefully, moves it toward little girl.
Little girl stirs her fingers in the beads.
Woman moves slightly closer to help her.
Little girl jumps up from her end of the bench.
Woman takes no notice of little girl but to smile at her, and begins to string the beads onto a piece of yarn.
Little girl inches closer as she observes the beads.
Little girl begins to hand the woman beads, and laughs.
The workers look up as little girl slowly eases onto the bench next to the woman, hands her the blanket she once clutched. She motions for her own piece of yarn.
Woman hands her a piece of yarn. Little girl measures it around woman’s wrist, begins to string beads.
Little girl snuggles closer to woman, and leans her head on woman’s shoulder.
The woman doesn't what will happen if she moves. So she lets the little girl finish her work, and allows her to tie the bracelet 'round her wrist, and receives one of the biggest hugs in the history of hugs. Her heart breaks when she must leave.
